Foxx's main character charisma helps smooth out some inconsistencies in the script, but it all works because of the action sequences. Rurouni Kenshin: O Começo

The Ip Man Franchise

There are five films in the Ip Man franchise, all reigning, and the four starring Donnie Yen and directed by Wilson Yip are all on Netflix. If you haven't seen them yet, what are you doing?

One of Yen's most iconic performances, the dramatized retelling of the life of the infamous Wing Chun grandmaster who trained Bruce Lee features some of the most impressive martial arts choreography of the century. With guest stars like Sammo Hung (who also choreographed the first film), Max Zhang, Mike Tyson, and Scott Adkins, there are plenty of big-name foes for Yen to fight, but it's all based on a very human story of one man. trying to live peacefully in a chaotic world to live. —PV

There are many movies about the Middle East wars from an American point of view.Mossul, written and directed by American Matthew Michael Carnahan (Joe's brother, by the way), follows a group of Iraqi soldiers fighting ISIS troops in the Battle of Mosul in 2016. As well as offering a different perspective than the vast majority of American war films set in Iraq,Mossulit has a great cast led by Waleed Elgadi and thrilling and engaging action sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat. —PV

Ryu Seung-ryong is a delight as a sucker who learns to rein in his abilities once his estranged daughter re-enters his life and sucks him into a class war fueled by the real estate market.psychokinesisplays Shin's "fighting style" for laughs, and while it's not quite as cartoonish as Chinese director Stephen Chow's hybrid genre, the film manages to make the flying object mayhem raunchy and thrilling. Political leverage adds weight to Shin's crushing decisions, but Sang-ho never loses sight of why they all came: to take psychic conceit to ever-greater heights.

The Debt Collector Movies

Regular Polygon readers will know that I love action star and martial artist Scott Adkins and his frequent collaborator, director Jesse V. Johnson. The two made some quality DTV action movies together, but none captured my heart more than the two Debt Collector movies.

Adkins plays a hapless martial arts instructor who is in debt and on the verge of losing his business. Turning to the dark world of debt collection, he teams up with a boy named Sue (Louis Mandylor) in an adorable buddy comedy with great fight scenes, aided by a palpable chemistry between the two leads. —PV

Tran Quoc Bao's Action Comedy for 2020paper tigerdeserves inclusion on this list because not only is it one of the best action movies on Netflix, it's one of the best.The best movies on Netflix Time course. I previously described the film as:

Not only did the three self-taught YouTube stars appear as a trio of antagonists in the film, but they are also notable for having contributed to movies like 2021.Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand this yearEverything everywhere at once.-TO DIE

Los Angeles Heist Movie is a well-established action-thriller genre, blessed with titles likeWarm,the italian jobmake new,breaking point, eÖOne of the best movies of 2022, ambulance. 2018den of thievesIt fell a little under the radar in comparison, but it's well worth its time as a darker version of this type of movie.

I absolutely love it when big movie stars decide to shoot action movies straight to video. Antonio Banderas has made a few of them over the years, andsafetyit's my favorite. Banderas plays a super-skilled ex-Navy cop tasked with protecting a young woman seeking refuge at the mall. The girl is being hunted by a group of heavily armed mercenaries (led by Ben Kingsley) and it's a 92-minute suspenseful thriller, led by Bandera's incredible screen presence in a very different role. —PV

This Cambodian action film follows a group of police officers (including talented martial artist and actor Jean-Paul Ly) who escort a high-ranking prisoner. When a bounty is placed on the captive, the group must work together to protect themselves and make it out alive. With kinetic and brutal action sequences, a grandiose main character and a tight narrative structure,escape from prisonguerraa big hit in Cambodiaand worth your time. —PV

The only two optionsThe night comes for usit might be better if a) it was available on home video and b) it had a sequel. Despite this, Timo Tjahjanto's bloody 2018 Indonesian action thriller is undeniably recognized as one of the best action films Netflix has to offer.

The night comes for usis a relentlessly brutal martial arts thriller filled with scenes of broken bones, bubbling geysers of blood, and no less than three stakes. Joe Taslim (Mortal combat) by Iko Uwais (The attack) star as Ito and Arian, childhood friends and triad enforcers who fall out when the former turns his back on his life of murder to save a child. Not to mention Julie Estelle's groundbreaking performance as The Operator, a mysterious undercover agent who takes on two assassins in one of the most spectacular fight scenes in a movie, and there's no shortage of it. It's a thrilling five-minute piece filled with brutal choreography, beautiful strobe lighting effects, a terrifying garrote execution, and a tense one-on-one knife-fighting finale.-TO DIE

This dark French revenge thriller follows a traumatized soldier (Olga Kurylenko) who returns home seeking revenge against the men who assaulted her sister. It's a pretty standard (and dismal) narrative structure, but it works because of the people behind it. Directed by Julien Leclerq, known for the excellent thrillerThe crewand the excellent seriesGangland(no Netflix!),Guardianit thrives on Kurylenko's command cues, a meager 80-minute runtime, and Leclerq's skill at shooting action sequences - particularly in close-up action, with an incredible bathroom fight and a memorable final death. —PV
